Living in the border region to Switzerland (Germany/France)
If you wish to reside in the border region, you will need a cross-border commuter approval. This approval is applied for by the central HR Operations Team 1 & 2.
Special regulations pass for people from third countries and must be clarified in advance.
Further information on the subject of cross-border commuters can be found at the Canton of Basel-Stadt Migration Office.
Third-country nationals are free to choose their place of residence within Switzerland. Residence in a country close to the border (Germany/France) is only possible if the person has already been registered in the respective border zone for at least 6 months. This option does not apply to employment with a training function (assistants).
Third-country nationals will receive the document “Authorization to issue a visa” in good time before taking up employment, with which they can collect the relevant visa from the Swiss representation in the respective country. Without this visa, entry is not possible and no work permit will be issued.
Information on the Swiss tax system can be found on the website of the Federal Tax Administration.
